The Cosy Igloo

Nigel Wellings

This is a quick one but fun. When I came up with the image of our meditation practice being like three rooms with a comfy chair in the first room it prompted several would be architects in our sangha to offer alternative room arrangements. Though impressed I resisted in the pursuit of simplicity. However, now that we have been looking at ‘just dropping’ and the ‘vase belly breathing’ in our new Tsoknyi Rinpoche and Dan Goleman book, I realise we may need an extension. So our meditation house now has a door mat which says on it ‘JUST DROP’ and before we go into the comfy chair room we pass through a small hall - or perhaps a vestibule - that is the belly breathing that intentionally supports calming the mind. Thinking about it now, it begins to resemble an igloo that has a small antechamber and is divided within the dome into three chambers.

I really like these images. The "Just Drop " mat feels extra welcoming, freeing of expectations, and vestibule, that moment of pausing ( belly breathing ) has another feeling of being prepared to connect in whatever happens in our practice.

Hopefully the igloo has some warm rugs inside !

I was tempted to put in a smoke hole and some smoke and then realised this was ridiculous.😀
